Full Stack Engineer

San Francisco Bay Area, CA, USA

Contractor (potential for full-time)

Hybrid

Reports to: Engineering Lead

About the Role

We are seeking a Full Stack Engineer to be the primary engine behind our "Zero-to-One" digital product build. You will be the primary hands-on developer responsible for translating a research-validated methodology into a Minimum Loveable Product (MLP) for our August 2026 Alpha launch working closely in high-collaboration with and reporting to our Engineering Lead.

How This Roles Supports the Organization

  • Alpha Product Delivery: Own the production deployment of the member-facing application and Care Team web tool by the September 2026 deadline.

  • Technical Implementation: Build the "connective tissue" between various platforms, ensuring seamless data flow from member enrollment through longitudinal impact measurement.

  • Scalability & Integrity: Implement code review protocols and automated testing that ensure system stability and participant data integrity.

What You'll Do

Full Stack Development (75%)

  • Lead hands-on development of SSJ’s digital platform using the Flutter framework and Dart programming language for the front end, and Go for the back end.

  • Build the member-facing application, Care Team tools application, and the Administration application.

  • Translate Figma wireframes and user stories into production-ready code with high fidelity.

API & Systems Integration (20%)

  • Partner with Engineering Lead to execute a scalable API and integration architecture.

  • Manage integrations between the CRM (CharityEngine), media library, calendar, messaging and external research tools like Qualtrics.

Engineering Excellence & Lifecycle (5%)

  • Collaborate with DevOps Engineering to ensure the engineering environment is secure and follows CI/CD best practices.

  • Maintain Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) to preserve the "Why" behind technical choices.

What You Bring

  • Grounded Presence: You are calm under pressure and maintain a steady focus during the high-stakes build window leading to Alpha.

  • Mission Resonance: You have a genuine connection to the work of human flourishing and supporting BIPOC emerging adults.

  • Adaptive Intelligence: You figure things out, ask good questions when stuck, and pivot without drama when technical constraints meet product goals.

What We're Looking For

Must-Have

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in full-stack engineering, building user-centered systems from scratch.

  • Expertise in relational (PostgreSQL) databases.

  • Experience building consumer-facing apps (onboarding, engagement, retention).

  • Experience in using AI tools for software development.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in Flutter and Dart highly desirable.

  • Expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript across the entire stack using a reactive framework.

  • Experience using Claude Code or Cursor AI for software development.

  • Experience in nonprofit, wellness, or human development sectors.

Experience & Capabilities

  • Startup/Alpha Delivery: Success building "zero-to-one" in resource-constrained, high-velocity environments.

  • Technical Literacy: Ability to work within HIPAA-compliant data environments and "Least Privilege" IAM models.

  • Collaborative Design: Experience working directly within design-first or human-centered design (HCD) workflows.

What Success Looks Like

  • Within 30 Days: completed your environment setup, and shipped your first set of prioritized user stories.

  • By August 2026: You have delivered a production-ready Alpha platform supporting the full member journey.

  • 12 Months From Now: The platform is stable, supporting multiple concurrent cohorts, and serves as a definitive model for tech-enabled transformation.
